Church to the Full Monty? Umm…

2.22.14
Bright and early in the morning we were off for a tour of St. Paul’s Cathedral. IMG_3121 Again, I was just speechless due to the size and all the detail. The entire ceilings of domes were made up of mosaics. The electronic tour said that there are over 6 million pieces of glass making up all the images. Unfortunately we couldn’t take pictures here. I had to just sit and take a moments to gather that I was walking down the same isle that Princess Diana walked down to get married! We were allowed to walk all the way up to the altar and see where the boys sit for the choir. On the electronic tour we got to listen to what the choir sounds like – amazing. Then we set off for the upper part of the cathedral. There was an area called the whisper dome where you could hear people whispering at the other side if you were directly across. That’s about 100 meters. We tried it and sure enough! I got goosebumps it was so cool. We continued to head upwards to the lookout. I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into… the metal see through stairs are not my thing. But at the point where they started, there was no turning back. I think I may have made some people nervous because they kept looking at me funny, but why wouldn’t you when a person is chanting, “keep your eyes on the steps, keep your eyes on the steps, keep your eyes on the steps”, Terrifying. I made it to the top and made a bad decision to look down a glass window that was literally the highest point on the cathedral. I managed to snap a picture though. IMG_3105 But the only way to get back down was to go out on the lookout where all that is holding you back from plummeting to your death is a flimsy iron railing. IMG_3114 IMG_3119 IMG_3111 I hugged the wall the whole way around, and then trucked on for my adventure down the scary see through steps. Thankfully Alex offered to go in front of me to break my fall if it happened. At the end of it all I climbed 570+ steps up and 570+ down. That little spike coming out of the dome at the top? IMG_3120 Yeah, that’s where I was. I’m not sure why. If I don’t have the cutest butt at the end of this trip I will be highly disappointed.
After that adventure we had to make our way across a bridge called “the wobbly bridge” by the locals because it literally wobbles. I didn’t have enough time to notice that it wobbled because I ran over the whole thing. Bridges, and wobbly things, are not my thing either. We have been to so many art galleries and museums we are a little sick of them at this point. There’s only so many old things a person can see and be interested in. so we got in and out quick spending just enough time to complete the assignment. Jill and I went to a market and spent most of our money buying tourist things. I loved that place and decided Covent Garden was my favorite place in London! That night we had another play. I wasn’t excited for it until I heard it was about male strippers!..what!? for class? I didn’t mind! They play was called The Full Monty which means the naked body. It was about a dad who couldn’t afford to pay his child support so he was going to lose his visitation rights to his child. He formed a group with other guys and they turned to dancing which eventually they turned to stripping to make it more interesting. Long story short, the group was to be shut down but were provided one opportunity to dance and in the end the audience (me, us) ended up being the strip club audience! It was hilarious and hot/sexy! No lies – no shame. I didn’t think they were going to go for the full monty but they pulled it off. They put their hats over their men and lifted them off at the end right as bright lights from behind them came on, so the audience was basically blinded and couldn’t see anything as hard as we tried to look – and I think we all know we were definitely trying to look! The play was better than magic mike, and I would go see it again in a heartbeat. But I’m still not sure how this was related to class at all? Oh well, I’m not complaining!
